Overview

Research-in-ophthalmology lecture series for/ with the physician researchers at LV Prasad Eye Institute in India.

Program Collaborators
Devanshi Dash, MPH
Rosemary Frasso, PhD
Jacquelyn Hamati, MD, MPH
Leslie Hyman, PhD
Raja Narayanan, MBBS

Keywords: ONLINENon-CMEVision Research

Linear Mixed Effects Modeling Part 1
Marianna LaNoue, PhD, MS, is a professor of statistics and measurement at Vanderbilt University.  In this series of 2 lectures, she discusses linear mixed effects models. This statistical technique is useful for clustered data.  The first lecture provides an overview and reviews a cross-sectional case.  The second lecture reviews a longitudinal case and considerations to keep in mind when using this technique.
Launch Video
Advanced Sample Size Calculation
Qiang (Ed) Zhang, PhD, is the Director and Lead biostatistician at the Vickie and Jack Farber Vision Research Center at Wills Eye Hospital.  This is an advanced lecture on sample size calculation, covering both one-sample and two-sample designs, continuous versus binary endpoints, and crossover studies.

Types of Study Designs
Leslie Hyman, PhD, is an ocular epidemiologist and Vice Chair for Research at the Vickie and Jack Farber Research Center at Wills Eye Hospital.  In this lecture, she reviews epidemiological methods and study designs in ophthalmology.
Launch Video
Association and Causality
Russel McIntire, PhD, is Associate Director for the Jefferson Institute for Smart and Healthy Cities.  He teaches epidemiology and geographic information mapping systems for the Jefferson College of Population Health. This lecture is an introduction to the field of epidemiology and teaches about associations and determining causality.
Launch Video
Data Interpretation Issues in Research
Russel McIntire, PhD, is Associate Director for the Jefferson Institute for Smart and Healthy Cities.  He teaches epidemiology and geographic information mapping systems for the Jefferson College of Population Health. In this lecture, he reviews data interpretation issues surrounding bias and confounding.
Launch Video
Screening for Diseases
Russel McIntire, PhD, is Associate Director for the Jefferson Institute for Smart and Healthy Cities.  He teaches epidemiology and geographic information mapping systems for the Jefferson College of Population Health.  This lecture summarizes characteristics of good screening tests and identifies sources of unreliability and invalidity of these tests.
Launch Video
Basic Sample Size Calculation
Ben Leiby, PhD, is Director of the Division of Biostatistics at Jefferson College of Population Health.  In this lecture, he explains a study's power and how to calculate sample size.
Launch Video
Hypothesis Testing
Ben Leiby, PhD, is Director of the Division of Biostatistics at Jefferson College of Population Health.  In this lecture, he presents the basics of statistical inference and hypothesis testing.
Launch Video
Simple Regression and Correlation Methods

Richard Hass, PhD, is Director of Assessment, Evaluation, and Research for the Jefferson Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education (JCIPE).  He also teaches statistics and advanced survey development at Jefferson's College of Population Health.  He presents a lecture on simple regression and correlation theory, methods, and statistical analysis using excel software.

Launch Video
Generalized Estimated Equations
Karen Walsh, DHSc, MS, MBA, is director of the Health Data Science Program at Jefferson's College of Population Health.  In this lecture, she introduces generalized estimated equations.  This statistical method is particularly useful for dealing with correlated data from repeated measures (ex. IOP over time).
Launch Video
Multiple Regression Part 1

In this series of 2 videos, Richard Hass, PhD, reviews multiple regression and general linear models. The first video covers theory and assumptions of the general linear model and provides guidance on producing and interpreting linear models using R software. The second video introduces the concept of 'factors' and methods of interference for linear model parameters.

Launch Video
Multiple Regression Part 2
In this series of 2 videos, Richard Hass, PhD, reviews multiple regression and general linear models. The first video covers theory and assumptions of the general linear model and provides guidance on producing and interpreting linear models using R software. The second video introduces the concept of 'factors' and methods of interference for linear model parameters.

Q&A: Regression, Correlation, and GEE
This Q&A segment with Dr. Richard Hass and Dr. Karen Walsh supplements each of their lectures on simple and multiple regression, correlation, and generalized estimated equations which can be found elsewhere in this folder.  In this segment, each lecturer fields questions about these topics from an audience of physicians and researchers at LV Prasad Eye Institute in India.
Launch Video
Q&A: Hypothesis Testing and Sample Size Calculation
This Q&A segment with Dr. Ben Leiby supplements his lectures on hypothesis testing and basic sample size calculation which can be found elsewhere in this folder.  In this segment, he fields questions about these topics from an audience of physicians and researchers at LV Prasad Eye Institute in India.
Launch Video
Q&A: Basic Epidemiology & Linear Mixed Models
This Q&A segment with Dr. Russell McIntire and Dr. Marianna LaNoue supplements their lectures on the basics of epidemiology and linear mixed effects models which can be found elsewhere in this folder.  In this segment, they field questions about these topics from an audience of physicians and researchers at LV Prasad Eye Institute in India.
Launch Video
Evaluating the Literature Workshop

This workshop on evaluating literature with Dr. Leslie Hyman supplement her lecture on study designs in ophthalmology which can be found elsewhere in this folder.  In this segment, she guides a panel of physicians at LV Prasad Eye Institute in India as they critically evaluate a piece of literature together.
