In this series, we welcome influential ophthalmologists from around the country and the world to speak at Wills Eye Hospital for the benefit of residents and practicing ophthalmologists. Presentations and lectures include clinical and non-clinical content, and reflections on each guest's professional journey. 

Dr. Hunter Cherwek is a global ophthalmologist with a specific career interest in using training and technologies to eliminate avoidable blindness and vision loss in low-resource communities around the world. Dr. Cherwek joined Orbis International (www.orbis.org) immediately upon completing his residency and went on to lecture and work in over 20 countries aboard the Flying Eye Hospital, the world’s only fully accredited teaching hospital on an aircraft, and helped build the organization’s telemedicine and distance learning platform, Cybersight (www.cybersight.org). He was then based in Beijing, China, for six years, working with Alcon as the Medical Director of Strategic Markets to help improve surgical training efforts and access to quality cataract care in Asia and Russia. Most recently, Dr. Cherwek returned to Orbis International in 2017 to continue to support its clinical training efforts and patient care programs as Vice President, Clinical Services & Technologies. When not on an Orbis program, he is happiest fishing and loves to do anything that involves the water, especially if there is a fly rod nearby.

In compliance with the Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education set by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), it is the policy of Wills Eye Hospital that the information presented at CME activities will be commercially unbiased and based upon clinical and scientific evidence. To help participants make judgments about the presence of commercial bias, Wills Eye Hospital provides information that all individuals in a position to control the content of a CME activity (including faculty, planners, reviewers or others) have disclosed about all financial relationships they have with ineligible companies. All relevant financial relationships have been mitigated.

Ineligible companies are companies whose primary business is producing, marketing, selling, re-selling, or distributing healthcare products used by or on patients. Financial relationships are relevant if the educational content an individual can control is related to the business lines or products of the ineligible company. The CME activity staff at Wills Eye Hospital report no financial relationships with ineligible companies.
